NECK LIFT

The neck is usually the first place where the signs of aging become noticeable. As people age, they usually start to notice fatty jowls, vertical banding hanging from their chin to neck, and other areas of laxity on the neck. This can have a big impact on a person’s self-esteem and how they view their body. Some people might try and wear scarves or turtleneck sweaters in order to cover up signs of aging.

A neck lift is an effective method to address wrinkles and sagging skin on the neck area due to natural aging or rapid weight loss. A neck lift can include the removal of extra skin or fat, the tightening of muscles in the neck, and treatment to improve the contours and appearance of the jawline.

Most neck lifts are performed in conjunction with a facelift, but they can also be carried out as a stand-alone procedure for people who are just interested in targeting the neck area.

If you are looking to rejuvenate your appearance and restore a youthful look to your neck, speak with the office of Dr. Jordan Wallin to learn more about neck lift surgery.

IS NECK LIFT SURGERY THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR ME?

Patients who are interested in the rejuvenation of their stripes or bands on the neck are good candidates for a neck lift procedure. Neck bands are an age-related condition that occurs when the muscle running from your neck to chin starts to become thicker and like a cord.

A neck lift is the most effective solution to limiting the appearance of neck bands and has a far greater success rate that non-surgical treatments like Botox.

If you are looking for an immediate way to look and feel younger, a neck lift might be the way to go. An effective lift will take out deep fat deposits in the neck, trim down extra skin, and maintain healthy fat right under the skin to ensure a smooth appearance.

The neck is usually the first part of the body where the signs of aging are most apparent, so treatment in the area can easily make a patient look ten years younger.

Removing loose skin and tightening neck muscles are also an effective way to help you feel good about your body after losing a significant amount of weight. After a period of extreme weight loss, the neck and face are usually the places where extra skin rests.

This can look unsightly and contribute to a poor self-image. Dr. Wallin, an experienced facial plastic surgeon, will be able to remove loose skin and muscle around the neck and give your entire facial area a rejuvenated look.

Best results will be seen if a patient waits for a neck lift after their weight has been stable for several months. If not, the results of the procedure could be reversed if there is significant weight gain.

The Steps And Components Of Neck Lift Surgery

A typical procedure will last about two hours. More time might be needed if a neck lift is combined with another treatment like liposuction, a brow lift, or a facelift. The entire process will depend on your own personal circumstances and goals, but all patients should be in good physical shape and mentally prepared before undergoing surgery.

For patients who are interested in treating neck bands or loose muscles, Dr. Jordan Wallin will usually make incisions in order to reach the neck muscle and manipulate it accordingly. Depending on your anatomy, a decision is made to reduce or tie the muscles causing these bands together with sutures.

Occasionally, smaller procedures might lead to the use of an endoscope to carry out surgery, which can lead to a reduced number of scars and a shorter recovery time. The choice between general or localized anesthesia will come down to the scope of a procedure and the patient’s comfort.

People who are looking to remove extra fat in the neck area will undergo liposuction, where a very small incision is made so fat can be removed or vacuumed out. Liposuction is often the first procedure Dr. Wallin will carry out if the entire lift is a multi-step process.

The removal of excess skin in the neck area is carried out after incisions are made into the skin so different parts can be trimmed and lifted. Skin that is remaining in the body will be secured into place with the help of tissue glue or stitches.

After a procedure, patents will be fitted for a compression bandage that will have to be worn for several days in order to expedite a healthy recovery process.

How Can I Prepare For
A Neck Lift?

Dr. Wallin will give advice about what types of medication should be avoided before a procedure. It is best to avoid some vitamins and medicines that thin the blood.

Smokers should quit for at least two weeks before surgery and should not resume the habit for at least two weeks after. It is very important that smokers completely stop and do not just cut down on the number of cigarettes. Smoking impedes proper healing.

The time before a neck lift is not a good opportunity for a diet. Eating properly and focusing on healthy foods both before and after a procedure will help your body heal and keep your weight stable. Most people need to be ready to take about one week off of work due to the procedure.

The Recovery Process
After A Neck Lift

Patients will usually feel some bruising and swelling after a procedure until the neck can get used to its new position on your body.  Scars and incisions should heal within a few weeks, but Dr. Wallin will work to try and hide any incisions on the natural contours of the face so they are not very visible.

You will want to make sure to keep ice packs, gauze, and towels close by to alleviate any discomfort after a procedure.  Incision sites should be rubbed with an antibacterial ointment to reduce the risk of infection.  Otherwise, you will want to make sure your head is resting comfortably while you are recovering.  The help of a close family member or friend can go a long way towards making sure you are relaxed and healthy while your body heals.

Dr. Wallin is always happy to speak with any patient after a neck lift to make sure the healing process is moving along in a safe manner.
