LATISSE®
HOW DOES LATISSE® WORK?
The active medication used in LATISSE, bimatoprost, was first used in a common glaucoma treatment. Interestingly, patients reported a change in their eyelashes as a side effect. LATISSE increases the percentage of eyelashes in the active growth phase and makes that stage last longer. It is applied nightly with a disposable, sterile applicator along the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes.
Will I Experience Any Side Effects from LATISSE®?
The most common side effects are itchy red eyes or eyelids. Tell your doctor if you have ever been treated for glaucoma, have macular edema, inflammation within your eye, have had any recent infections, or are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. The safety of this medication has not been studied in those currently breastfeeding.
WILL LATISSE® CHANGE MY EYE COLOR?
When applied to the eyeball as a drop for glaucoma, bimatoprost has been found to increase melanin in darker eyes (brown and hazy eyes). Blue eyes do not contain melanin and are unlikely to darken with treatment. , similar to bimatoprost, has a product warning that eye color may darken with treatment, although the chance of this is rare. When this happens, it will permanently darken the eye color. Eyelid skin darkening may also occur but is usually reversible if the product is discontinued.
HOW LONG WILL MY LATISSE® RESULTS LAST?
If you stop using LATISSE, your eyelashes are expected to return to their previous appearance over several weeks to months.
